Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling tends to be shorter-term and focused on a specific issue, life period or crisis. Psychotherapy is usually a longer-term commitment, working more broadly across your history and patterns. I offer counselling — support that can be brief and focused, or extend over time if that's what's useful, without requiring a long-term commitment from the outset.
How much does counselling cost?
Individual sessions are 60 minutes at £150. Couples sessions are 90 minutes at £220. A reduced fee is available for those in the local Lewes area.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I work with clients across the UK and internationally by video call, as well as in person near Lewes, East Sussex.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Some people come for a handful of focused sessions around a specific issue; others continue longer. For couples, I typically suggest starting with six sessions and reviewing from there - most couples I work with continue somewhere between six and twelve months.
Is everything confidential?
Yes, our time is your safe space. Everything is confidential within the standard professional and ethical framework of the BACP. Details in the Privacy statement on website.
How do I know if counselling — or couples counselling — is right for me?
The first session is always exploratory, with no obligation to continue. Counselling is a relational process, so it needs to feel like the right fit before anything else — that's true whether you're coming alone or with a partner.
What happens in the first session?
We'll talk through what's brought you, what you're hoping for, and how I work. For couples, it's also a chance to decide together, afterwards, whether to go ahead.
Where can I find more about your work?
You can find me on my socials and read more on my substack.
